Observation notes: Hilltopping on the "Volcano" hill in Calavera Open Space preserve. Picking fights with a Red Admiral and an Anise Swallowtail this day. A Gray Hairstreak sometimes joined in the aerial battle. The intense color and the upper wing pattern seems to distinguish this from Painted Ladies.
