Observation notes: I'd been waiting to see these show up as they are a pretty consistent marker of a good observation year in late winter or early spring. Two days before there weren't any, but this day I observed 6 or 7 in the same area of Calavera Open Space both down in the riparian area and in the transitional regions toward the chaparral.
