Eastern Tailed-Blue
Cupido comyntas

Observation date: July 27, 2021
Submitted by: Christian.Nunes
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: About as close to C. comyntas as we get around Boulder. Seen in a wetland drainage flowing through native prairie.
Status: Unknown
Verified by: mikefisher
Verified date: November 25, 2021
Coordinator notes: Well developed, double red sumarginal lunules + this time of the year + prairie location=definitely C. comyntas. Looks like a female too. A very uncommonly observed blue close to the Front Range. You might be confused because under status I put "Unknown." Probably resident in lowland of eastern Colorado but there isn't really any early season evidence to support that yet. It could best be considered a temporary colonist...maybe resident some years (one or two years) then absent others. You can usually find it most years in eastern Colorado wetland situations, mid-summer like your record here and later. Mike
