Coordinator notes: very excellent! not often seen from Sandoval County, but a true breeding resident all along the Rio Grande as far north as Espanola. this is the nominate (e.g., eastern) subspecies, which mimics Monarch. Southern NM has subspecies obsoleta, which mimics Queen. The two forms hybridize in the middle Rio Grande valley, producing a range of phenotypes.
Checklist region(s): United States, New Mexico, Sandoval County
