Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found on cement breezeway of apartment building in Central, SC. Weather was sunny and warm; air temperature somewhere in the mid to high 80s. No plant host was within 15-20 feet of the caterpillar, however there is a wooden area within 50 years from where this one was found. Observed him trying to crawl into the cracks of the siding of the building, but he could not fit. He did curl away from the stick that was eventually used to relocate him to the shaded soil under a yucca plant within the landscape of the community. It did appear that he was possibly interested in one brown obviously dead leaf but we do not know if he was interested in feeding on it (as it seemed to us) or if he was trying to use it to hide. He was definitely on the move though. We wish him well and it was truly an amazing experience to have with my children.
