American Snout
Libytheana carinenta

Observation date: August 31, 2021
Date notes: Butterflies also present for a few weeks prior, starting around August 20th, 2021.
Submitted by: Sula Waite
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Following rains, hundreds of these Snout butterflies can be found mud-puddling alongside Sleepy Oranges (Abaeis nicippe) and the occasional Cloudless Sulphur (Phoebis sennae). All seen so far have presumably been male, as I believe female L.carinenta have prominent front legs. I am reporting in the hope that this may provide a data point for migration studies.
