West Coast Lady
Vanessa annabella

Observation date: August 20, 2021
Submitted by: Pollinator Proj...
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The butterfly was beautiful, and flitted from cosmos to cosmos. This is the first a V. anabella noted in our garden. This garden is in downtown Phoenix, OR, and there is very little for insect habitat and forage, except our approximately 1000 foot garden (front and side), growing primarily forbs native to our region. Much of the surrounding town as well as the Greenway along Bear Creek burned last fall. This is our garden's second summer - hopefully we will begin to see more moths and caterpillars now as time goes on.

Coordinator notes: I was on Mt. Ashland in July of 2020, I spent 3 days there. Those fires are burning everywhere.-Ken Davenport
