Pink-striped oakworm moth
Anisota virginiensis

Observation date: July 10, 2021
Submitted by: Elemaza
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The female moth was seen around 9:00AM on my back yard sliding glass door. About ten to twenty minutes later, the male appeared and the moths mated. Both moths remained on the sliding glass door all day without moving, in the late afternoon they both fell off onto the deck, still together. Thinking that they might be stepped on, I slid a piece of cardboard under them and moved the cardboard to a plant stand on the deck. The next morning they had both disappeared. It's the first time I've seen these moths mating.
