Observation notes: This butterfly was feeding from my two butterfly bushes along our barnyard fence. There was a monarch and swallowtail also frequenting the plants at the same time, but I couldn’t get a picture of them. It was mostly sunny with a temperature of about 84 degrees. We have had dry weather for weeks, but it had rained for the previous 3 days before this sighting. We live in a rural part of an otherwise moderately populated county. Corn, soybeans, and alfalfa are the primary crops surrounding our 20 acre property. Our land hasn’t been farm for over 30 years and has a relatively diverse forest and pasture.
