Observation notes: Several of them were feeding on lantana bushes nearby. The location was in a residential neighborhood. They were also checking the passionflower vine, but those flowers were not yet open.

Coordinator notes: Marta, thanks for submitting this observation and excellent photo of a female Gulf Fritillary. others have seen this species in the Las Cruces area and I suspected that passionvine would eventually be found there because that is the larval host plant for Gulf Fritillary. the activity you saw around that plant may have been females looking for places to put eggs. or males looking for females. go back today and you might find caterpillars. if so, please submit a photo!
