Coordinator notes: These are very interesting photos. And I agree, of course, that this is Anisota. But I think both of these are A. senatoria (although A. senatoria and A. stigma are very similar and I thought about this for some time). The smaller moth in the first photo certainly looks like A. peigleri but that sp. isn't found in the northeast. However, the female of A. senatoria looks very much like A. peigleri. - see this link: https://www.insectidentification.org/insect-description.php?identification=Orange-Tipped-Oakworm-Moth Also, I haven't been able to find anything in the literature confirming that either A. senatoria or stigma interbreed with A. peigleri, so the first photo is unlikely to contain moths of different species anyway, even if the latter was found in Connecticut.
