Pecan Leafminer Moth
Cameraria caryaefoliella

Observation date: July 21, 2021
Submitted by: tirvine2020
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Reared from Carya glabra. Larva made an upper surface blotch mine. The mine looked like it was waterlogged when it was found on 7/10, so a slit was made in the proximal end of the mine and the larvae was seen retreating towards the apex of the leaf in the mine. The next morning, 7/11, a simple cocoon comprised of a thin, plastic-like oval layer of silk covering the pupa was observed. The silk covering created an indent in the leaf in which the pupa sat. The adult emerged the morning of 7/21 with the pupal exuvia sticking out of the upper epidermis of the mine.
