Lesser Maple Leaf Blotch Miner Moth
Phyllonorycter lucidicostella

Observation date: July 20, 2021
Submitted by: tirvine2020
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Reared from Acer saccharum. Larva made a lower surface tentiform mine. The mine was rather large, only bounded by large veins. Frass is deposited in a clump on one side of the mine. The mine was found on 7/10, and the larva was still active on 7/14, but the mine was opened on 7/18 and it had pupated. It emerged in the afternoon of 7/20, the pupal exuvia poking out through the lower epidermis of the mine. Saw this one was it was still wriggling out of the pupa but in the thirty seconds it took to get my phone for photos it was already pumping its wings on the side of the container!
