Observation notes: The checkerspot was one of two seen on a hilltop at Hopewell Lake. It was going to Purple Aster flowers.

Coordinator notes: Rebecca, I was there last year at this time and saw it. Good job! I'm not going to make a call on the subspecies. I find this "species" complex pretty challenging when trying to separate things at the subspecies level. I gave it a try in Butterflies of NM, and that's about as good as I can do. More DNA analyses needed!
