Dun Skipper
Euphyes vestris

Observation date: July 14, 2021
Submitted by: DeepSkyKelly
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Drab, brownish, barely-marked skipper with white fringes. The head has a mildly golden color. I might suggest Orange-headed Roadside, though the color seems a bit too drab. I'm otherwise stumped.

Coordinator notes: This is the Dun Skipper...yellow head is the easiest character to remember to ID this skipper. The forewings have some yellow fulvous near the stigma but this doesn't show very well on even good specimens and fades quickly with age. Orange-headed Roadside Skipper is smaller and nearly black...an uncommonly found species (Amblyscirtes phylace) flies mostly in June. Mike
