Virgin Tiger Moth
Apantesis virgo

Observation date: July 08, 2021
Submitted by: DJ Jones
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The moth was fluttering in the grass. We picked him up and put him in some bushes so he was more protected, as he had been close to the driveway. He kept fluttering and wouldn’t stand still, so the picture isn’t the best. He couldn’t fly so maybe he was pretty new. The temperature was about 65°F, it had been raining the day before, and was cloudy. The location is about a quarter mile east of Lake Michigan, in Manistee, Michigan. The area is mostly grassy with some trees, about 40 acres vacant land and located just south of the Manistee golf and country club golf course.
