Horace's Duskywing
Erynnis horatius

Observation date: July 07, 2021
Submitted by: DeepSkyKelly
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I'm not at all certain on this ID. The reasons I went with Afranius are the bold patterns on the upper forewing, brown fringes, and the brown/tan patch on the upper edge of the forewing (best seen in first photo). This one individual flew in quick loops around a grove of pinon/juniper, landing around the same place every minute or so.

Coordinator notes: You must have been in an area where there is oak because oak is the host of Horace's Duskywing...not Erynnis afrainius because the forewings would be very gray scaled which this one shows little of...and this is the time for the second flight of horatius in southern Colorado.
