Observation notes: Riparian corridor through the desert. 1 and 5/8 inch wingspan. Included photo of a series of 5 additional checkerspots all taken the same day as submitted specimen and all within about a mile of each other. Butterflies of America shows anicia and colon at this site on the same date. Top specimen in series looks more colon-like. Bottom specimen appears to be acastus. Middle 3 and submitted specimen appear to be anicia.
