Western Tailed-Blue
Cupido amyntula

Observation date: June 03, 2021
Submitted by: wilderneyes
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The butterfly was found trying to unsuccessfully fly through a gazebo screen, and was briefly collected for photographing before being released. The underside is a pale greyish white with small black dots along the wings. At the ventral base of the hindwing, there is an orange eye with a blue centre, with a very small outwards extension of the round wing profile. Along the edge of the wings are very faint scalloped markings in a similar shape to the eye. The dorsal side of the wings appeared to be a brownish purple or blue with a light border edge, though could not be clearly captured.
