Observation notes: This butterfly was visiting blooms on a Coreopsis pubescence plant. This plant grew from a seed of Coreopsis pubescence 'Sunshine Superman'. It is twice as tall as the cultivar plant and the blooms are twice as large. The butterfly seemed to prefer the plant with the larger blooms, but it visited both. It was visiting a bloom of the cultivar plant when I took this photo. It was flighty and would not let me get close. It would fly high and away as though it was leaving the property, but luckily each time it circled around and returned to this patch of orange flowers. One time it was not disturbed by me, but by two cabbage white butterflies that fluttered upwards in a circular dance. I got two photos from a safe distance, but each was with a bloom blocking a full view shot. The photo submitted was the best one.
