Bernardino Dotted-Blue
Euphilotes bernardino

Observation date: May 04, 2021
Submitted by: Zencoyote
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Southwest facing hillside about 5 miles inland from the coast. This group of about 7-8 individuals were flying around a cluster of Buckwheat plants, perhaps jockeying for the best spot, and having mini-battles defending their turf. There seemed to be others in the area. I first mistook them for Pigmy Blues as this is what I usually see in the area. But close-up their outer wing patterns were quite different, and the inner wings with their brilliant blue and strong black edge were distinctive.
