  Sighting 1288038

Observation date: April 09, 2021
Submitted by: topper72
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Sunny, slight breeze, temp. around 60 degrees F. Only this fresh single male seen nectaring on willow in nearly dry stream channel at ~7540 ft elevation. No milkweed observed in this area (third year looking for butterflies at this location) and too early for milkweed to be out anyway. A pleasant (but puzzling) surprise to see this one, especially this early and at this location.
Status: Temporary Colonist

Coordinator notes: It is surprising to see this guy this far north this early in the year. he's in pretty good condition, too, suggesting he may have hatched not too far away. perhaps this species is breeding farther north than in the past . . .
