  Sighting 1286766

Observation date: March 10, 2021
Submitted by: Anne Wills
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Sunny, 65 degrees, light breeze. The butterfly had joined a group of mixed bees, all sipping sap from rows of holes made by a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker on a smallish, rough-barked tree. Next, it floated down from the tree, landing on some oak leaves on the path. A few moments later, it returned to the sapsucker holes. Nearby were red and chestnut oaks, maple, beech, poplar, sourwood, wild cherry, poison ivy, greenbrier, grape, blooming coltsfoot, budding spice-bush, moss, and mixed 'weeds'. Several nearby mud-puddles had lots of wood-frog eggs.
