Common Checkered-Skipper
Burnsius communis

Observation date: July 09, 2020
Submitted by: Harry Forbes
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Feeding on a sunflower and other flowers in a high desert environment in warm, sunny conditions. One of my greatest frustrations in butterflying has been the Checkered Skipper complex. I have never been able to find any other than White/Common Checkereds outside of my home state of TX despite several extended trips to the Mountain West, where others actually exist. Do any of these shots suggest something else? Small Checkered Skipper perhaps? Thanks for looking. I'm hoping for a miracle here.
