Observation notes: Sunny, clear day, about 75 Degrees F, found in pasture on Fort Carson within Turkey Creek Ranch Recreation Area. Caterpillar was on ground in short grass near a prairie dog colony. Unidentified grasses were near the caterpillar when observed. Blue grama, purslane, golden hairy aster rabbit brush observed nearby.

Coordinator notes: According to the Powell & Opler book, Moths of Western North America, the description of the larva given (p.283) for this species matches your photo. I'm not a moth person, but the stated range of this moth is considerably farther south than that stated on this text page.
