Great ash sphinx
Sphinx chersis

Observation date: August 15, 2020
Submitted by: Ed Harrison
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Temp hi 70s F. ~3 inch caterpillar crossing a gravel driveway through open area in mixed forest. Closeups show “head” (front) and “tail” (rear) of specimen. I know larvae are difficult to ID, but I’m hoping someone will recognize this one. For what it’s worth, Tiger Swallowtails (Papilio) have been abundant this year, so I wonder if this larva is the result.
