Observation notes: A warm sunny summer day in Miller Meadow Forest Preserve, a meadow near the Des Plaines River with trees along the river and in lower areas. The meadow is populated with rushes, grasses, thistles, milkweeds, and the like. The butterfly was in the open near a wooded dry water course moving from plant to plant with no apparent path. There were several of these — this is a single individual — along with other kinds of skippers, monarchs, and cabbage whites.
