Northwestern Fritillary
Speyeria hesperis

Observation date: August 06, 2020
Submitted by: Geoff Urwin
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Weedy field with many of this species seen along with Common Wood Nymphs and Cabbage white butterflies. Very windy, so photo's aren't great, but hopefully will suffice for identification purposes. Plants identified in field include Canada Thistle, Goldenrod, Willow at early stages, so no higher than flowering plants.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: The top side and underside markings match. It is also the most common fritillary in this range. While fritillaries are often hard to differentiate, this one seems reasonable to call a Northwestern
