Coordinator notes: This is a copper butterfly (Gray Copper). The subfamily is Lycaeninae (The Coppers). All of the small butterflies are in the family Lycaenidae. The subfamily Polyommatinae are the Blues; the other is the Theclinae (The Hairstreaks). Looks like this one is trying to stay in the shade to some degree. It looks like it is resting on the host plant too....Rumex....from that seed head just behind it. Mike
