Great Spangled Fritillary
Speyeria cybele

Observation date: July 04, 2020
Submitted by: AMRaab
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Beautiful summer day, sunny and 85 degrees, light breeze. We saw this butterfly floating on Mille Lac lake from our boat, and we picked it up out of the water. Its abdomen looked injured and its hind legs weren’t working very well. Its wings were worn and a bit tattered. It tried to fly after it dried off but did not go far. I left it on shore on some wildflowers.
