Modest sphinx
Pachysphinx modesta

Observation date: July 03, 2020
Submitted by: Seashell71
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I had to remove (her?) from a piece of plywood we needed. She climbed onto my finger and allowed me to admire her for several minutes. Before she finally took flight, she started vibrating quite hard for about a minute, then took off. The weather was sunny, about 23 Celcius, moderate humidity. We live beside a lake. Non-indigenous trees in the immediate vacinity include a Japanese Maple and a Japanese Willow.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: The wing-whirring you witnessed was to warm the muscles for flight.
