Cloudless Sulphur
Phoebis sennae

Observation date: June 28, 2020
Submitted by: Bob Nieman
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Cloudy with light breeze. Warm and humid (low 80s). Butterfly flew up and landed on some Virginia Creeper, perhaps 10' up in a shaded location. It caught my eye due to the size and then shape once I looked at it. I waited for another profile or maybe open wing, but it didn't move. My field of view was limited.

Coordinator notes: Bob, I concur with your analysis . . . it's a tough ID at that angle. Agarithe tends to be more apricot-colored, also less frequently encountered, so we'd need a better angle to confirm Agarithe. On the other hand, Cloudless Sulphur is kind of a gimme for that area this time of year; I've seen plenty that are essentially unmarked, so I'm going with that. Thanks for submitting!
