Pacific Orangetip
Anthocharis sara

Observation date: June 01, 2020
Submitted by: Zencoyote
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: At first, I saw a lot of yellow, and thought this was a Dainty Sulphur. It wasn't until I examined the image that the initial guess was an error. The lower wing has the classic "Leopard Spots" of the Orangetip, and the orange patch is too far out on the wing. It fluttered around the mustard and other greens but never straying too far. Solitary.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: It can get more confusing then that, we have 3 "Sara Orange-tip" species in what was formerly considered one species: sara, Julia (stella) and thoosa, all three have been confirmed by rearing and genomic DNA work. But if you find a ringlet with "orange tips", I want to see it-Ken Davenport
