  Sighting 1249174

Observation date: May 13, 2020
Submitted by: sgguthart
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: It was 59 degrees, mostly sunny and breezy. Plants blooming nearby included Dandelions (lots of them!), Delphiniums (just a few), Pasque Flowers and Easter Daisies (Townsendia hookeri). Unfortunately, I didn't have an opportunity to capture of photo of the underside of this butterfly. It never folded its wings before taking off.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: This is indeed a comma, specifically a Hoary Comma. Don’t worry about not getting an underside photo; the upperside (specifically of the hindwing) is the best way to ID most commas. Thanks for submitting your sighting!
