Coordinator notes: Your suggested ID of this unique species is correct. Milbert's Tortoiseshells are usually the first butterfly species to emerge in late winter/early spring in our area, and their offspring can also be seen flying in the summer and fall, as well as the spring of the following year (they overwinter as adults).
