Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: On a small trail in lower Griffith Park were some newly blooming small bushes in full sunlight, visited by at least three species of butterfly as well as several bees and flies. This light colored swallowtail remained for several minutes, moving from bloom to bloom. This individual while very pale in color, did have a very subtle yellowish tint. Stripes on wings appeared heavy, with relatively thick light colored stripes on upper black thorax. A smaller orange crescent appears inside a larger pale crescent just above the tail.

Coordinator notes: The Coast Ranges populations are a bit different than those in the Sierra Nevada, for one, they (coastal ones) tend to be more yellowish or cream colored-Ken Davenport
