Banner Metalmark
Thisbe lycorias

Observation date: January 18, 2020
Submitted by: Paul Prappas
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Not a great shot, and yet, I believe there's enough to ID this bug. The combination of white patches and red edging whittles the field down to a few metalmarks. There are the Nymphidiums...but none have any red on the leading edge of the FW. Only other metalmarks that match up are Thisby irenia and Thisby lycorias. Lycorias matches up best; large white patches on ventral and dorsal, and smaller angled white patch on tip of FW. The red patches on the dorsal FW are positioned right, though my blurry photo makes it looks like there's more red than there should be. But there also is the red around the head, which is right, and also those thin double white bands along the wing edge.

Coordinator notes: I'm going to assume that he saw more than is shown in this photo to make this ID. I cannot ID with just this photo which does not show the wing pattern.
