Observation notes: I spotted this in a field of mostly dried up long grasses near Malibu State Park in the Santa Monica Mountains. I used the Santa Monica butterfly field guide to take a guess at the name. https://www.nps.gov/samo/planyourvisit/upload/ButterflyFieldGuide2Ismall.pdf. It was about 78F today. I also saw common buckeyes in the same area. I thought the butterfly I was taking was blue because I took a picture of a blue blur . Maybe that was a different species though. This butterfly was very small.

Coordinator notes: Too late in season for the other two species you mention. Coincidently, I gave the butterfly presentation at Malibu State Park in late April 2018! I was handing out lists of what butterflies occur there.-Ken Davenport
