Five-spotted hawkmoth
Manduca quinquemaculata

Observation notes: Moth was situated on the side of one of my terra cotta planters. It rained last night and the sky is still cloudy this morning. The moth was in roughly the same position between 7:30 AM and 10:15 AM. I just checked out the window (11:40 AM) and the moth has now moved down to the concrete block below the planter box it had been on earlier. My neighbor has a silver maple by his driveway, which is perhaps 20 feet from the planter box where the moth is located. (I have eight (8) other great pictures (including one with a ruler next to moth) but their format is HEIC and not JPG, and your program would not accept them. Is it an American Dagger moth? Many thanks, Carol Walker
