American Dagger Moth
Acronicta americana

Observation date: September 11, 2019
Submitted by: KMG603
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I happened to find this poor thing on its side on the ground under a maple tree. It's next to a pine & also an oak tree as well, so I'm not sure which tree it was eating from. From looking it up, my best guess is an American Dagger. I had just seen a yellow jacket eating a different caterpillar close by where I found this one, and it was very slow moving so I'm not sure if it was injured prior to my finding it, but I've got it in a container with all 3 kinds of fresh leaves, some sticks and a paper towel and it seems to be doing better so far. Hopefully I saved it from getting eaten!
