Southern Pink Moth
Pyrausta inornatalis

Observation date: August 24, 2019
Date notes: I have found these moths and caterpillars, on a variety of salvia blooms in my yard, all summer long.
Submitted by: BudOhio
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I grow a number of salvias in my hummingbird garden in Middletown, Ohio. This year, these moths have multiplied exponentially with each brood. They seem to feed exclusively on blooms and flower buds, and I would guess that the bloom production of both annual and perennial salvias in my yard is down more than fifty percent versus previous seasons. The moth in the image is ovipositing on the blooms of salvia cuatrecasana.
