Canadian Tiger Swallowtail
Papilio canadensis

Observation date: September 02, 2019
Submitted by: stacy.bettencourt
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I submitted this to the Caterpillars of North America Facebook page for a positive ID. They told me they thought it was a Tiger Swallowtail, but that I had incorrectly identified the host tree as an oak. I found the cat again today and took another photo of it on its host to show the leaves. They said it would be unusual if it was hosting on an oak and to submit it here for review.
Status: Resident
Verified by: John Calhoun
Verified date: September 02, 2020
Coordinator notes: This would be a very unusual host for this species. It possibly wandered from a nearby host tree, and it appears to be a mature larva
