Linden-Leafroller Moth
Pantographa limata

Observation date: August 26, 2019
Submitted by: Ed Harrison
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Habitat: a somewhat open area along a gravel drive through mixed woods. Temp mid 70s F. This moth (wingspan ~ 30 mm) was very active until it settled on the underside of a Beech leaf where it spread its wings and remained. The wings seem to be semitransparent and are oddly marked; maybe the transparency accentuates these markings. I reviewed Beadle & Leckie and found that Herpetogramma pertextalis most closely resembled this moth. But, I’m less confident of the species as others in this genus may also fit its description.

Coordinator notes: You are correct, there are a lot of look-alikes. The dark subterminal area helps set this one apart.
