Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Seen at the Atlanta History Center. It was out in hot sunshine, moving quickly between locations, before settling on my hat, but I read that the Pearly-eye butterflies prefers shade. Wings closed when resting. I’m holidaying in Georgia but am British so do not know my North American butterflies very well. If this is a Pearly-Eye, which variety - the markings on the underwings do not seem to match online images.
