Aphrodite Fritillary
Speyeria aphrodite

Observation date: August 04, 2019
Submitted by: Thomlinson
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Really hard to distinguish among the fritillaries that were there. There were a lot, actively nectaring, mainly on asters, some on Monarda.
Status: Resident
Verified by: A_baldini
Verified date: September 08, 2019
Coordinator notes: Correct identification. Eye color is the way to go for the Aphrodite Fritillary; no other common fritillary in Colorado has brown eyes save the Great Spangled Fritillary (which is almost never seen east of the continental divide).
Checklist region(s): United States, Colorado, Jefferson County
