Observation date: June 30, 2019
Submitted by: edz111
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Seems to have both butterfly- and moth-like characteristics. Wingspan is about 4-5cm. The insect stayed on the ground for about a minute and let me approach to photograph, then flew away a few seconds later.

Coordinator notes: This is a male Capella [Variable] Checkerspot butterfly not the Nais Metalmark; although the colors are similar, Nais is a much smaller butterfly but does occur in the area of your sighting. You could easily recognize Nais by the small size and the fact it has neat GREEN eyes. Mike
