Large Maple Spanworm Moth
Prochoerodes lineola

Observation date: June 23, 2019
Date notes: Around 11pm I saw a butterfly on our green plastic chair. It was resting on it as is pictured in my photograph. A few minutes later another butterfly flew by my face. I watched it for a few minutes, and it has brown coloring on its wings.

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The butterfly was intent on staying in the spot where it was on the green chair. I watched it from inside the screened in porch before slowly opening the door to make sure I didn't startle it. I studied it for a bit, and took a variety of shots with the butterfly occasionally opening its wings up a bit wider to see it. As it was dark outside it was difficult to ascertain if there were any other colors besides the brown and white on the wing. It's eye may be a white color or is a reflection of the flash.

Coordinator notes: The photo is a little overexposed and there's no image of the upper side, but I think this is right.
