Observation notes: Thousands of caterpillars feeding on boxelder trees. Many of the boxelder trees in this fairly isolated riparian area were almost completely denuded by these caterpillars. They were webbing down from the denuded trees, and feeding in great numbers on the remaining leaves of other trees. This was in a narrow riparian area surrounded by many miles of shortgrass prairie.
