Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Female. Seen near the parking lot at the trailhead to Max Patch, one of the bald peaks located in the Bald Mountains in North Carolina. A male Great Spangled Fritillary flew around her, then landed on a piece of wood on the ground, where she landed next to it. She then opened and closed her wings several times before moving around so that they were face-to-face.
