Observation notes: Male. Seen with a female Pearl Crescent butterfly on the trail to Max Patch, one of the Bald Mountains, in North Carolina. The butterfly was flying over and around the female Pearl Crescent. After it flew over the female, it landed on a piece of wood on the ground, where the female then joined it. They sat side-by-side for a short time, after which the female moved around so that they were face-to-face (pics to be submitted with Pearl Crescent sighting).
